I have a 1998 Mazda b4000 4x4 w/ automatic tranny and ATM I drove it to the local market place and there she sits.
What occurred was i test drove it after we did some work and all of a sudden I had somewhere urgent to go to and so I grabbed my key and hopped into my girlfriend's car as she was following me.
She followed me due to not having good tabs and title not registered fully into my name... Not until we can get some extra cash and it's drivable anyways.

Well somehow or other I believe I dropped the key getting out of the truck and into her car. I've searched everywhere and they're about to tow my truck I'm afraid. The guy who I bought it from never registered it in his name either... The guy he bought it from I do know pretty well but he said he couldn't help because he filled out the release of interest form on bottom of title.

So it's like this... Jesse bought truck from mike and never registered title.. mike bought truck from Matt and never registered title... Matt sold truck to mike (actually traded for mike's diesel vw) and Matt did send in the paperwork to release the interest after the deal was done. Mike just left for treatment for 90 days and Jesse has no clue how to get title in his name.

Urgency is the truck is stuck at saars market with no tabs and no key to start it up and leave... Essentially waiting to be towed.

So 2 things I need...

First - if ANYONE has a b4000 key they can take a photo of so I can try and make one out of a blank or ask friends for a jiggler set - please do not hesitate to take a photo. I can't find any online that are cut to shape anyways..so this would be a miracle.

Second... How can I (Jesse) get the title - and who currently is the owner? I imagine it would be like this... Matt is legal owner; Mike is registered owner... Jesse is screwed owner? But who can Jesse get title from in the end. Matt says he would not mind going to courthouse with me to try and get title but he is positive they won't do it since he released interest to Mike... Mike would help but 90 days is a long ways away.

The picture issue is the first I really need. I have the blanks already. Please help and thank you.

Get it towed yourself before losing it. Or rent a truck and trailer and a come along.

Yeah i need a tow rig that lifts front tires so a dolly so to speak...
No one has a photo of a key?
That may be a little personal..
Well does anyone know how I can go about getting the title?

98' has the PATs security system using RFID transponder chipped keys. You cant make one from a picture on the internet. The ECU needs to be programmed to accept the keys transponder frequency. You can hack the ignition cylinder all you want the computer will never allow the truck to start without sensing a proper frequency.

Find the key or call a tow truck. Title issues vary by state but if it gets towed I highly doubt you will ever get it back from impound without proof of ownership of some kind and by the time you sort that out impound fees will be more than the truck is worth.

Good luck on your extremely shady and illegal fiasco.

If it is a 98 then he does not have a transponder key. Ford started installing pats in the rangers in 99. I have a 98 ranger without pats. If he does have pats then it is a 99. The door might just say 9/98 which would be a 99.

Ah, i thought pats 1 started in 98 and then pats 2 was 99. My bad.

However, just to recap after waking up still thinking about this thread...

First - Guy buys a truck not only without a title but no clear idea who even owns it. :shok:

Second - Guy decides to drive said truck with no title, registration, insurance, or license plates.

Third - Guy decides to stop and leave said illegal ownerless truck in a random shopping mall parking lot while he goes to run errands with his girlfriend. :nopityA:

Fourth - Guy loses the only key to this illegal mystery truck while its parked in some shopping mall. :idiot:

Fifth - The solution he comes up with is to ask for pictures of other peoples keys on the internet so he can copy them to try to use them on the illegal mystery truck before it gets towed. :stop:

This is like a bad episode of Mr. Bean...

Just FYI
Technically the 99-04 ranger v6's were pats 2.
Pats 1 was in:
1998 Contour V6 Duratec
1996-1997 Mustang
1996-1997 Taurus LX and SHO
1997-1998 Expedition
1997 Mark VIII
1998 Mystique LS
1997-1998 Navigator

And yes no way I would have driven that truck until I could have afforded to get it legal.

What exactly do you hope to accomplish by someone posting a picture of their key? The keys aren't all the same, so if you have a the correct blank the odds of getting the right cut are low.

Frankly, this all sounds at best stupid, and at worst rather suspicious.

Yea I can't tell if he's a troll, the worlds worst car theif, or actually capable of making so many bad decisions in a row.

I doubt he is a troll. Too much story for a troll, they are usually lazy.

And some states do allow "owning" and registering a vehicle year after year, and even selling it, without a title. It almost always causes problems for someone else down the line.

Up here I can buy a vehicle with the previous owner supplying a bill of sale. I then go to the registry office and have it registered in my name [title] before I can get insurance. However, if there is a problem with the title, such as a lien, I'm SOL. But I can pay to have a lien search done before buying the car.

But can you make a key from a picture online to start it. :icon_rofl:

Only if it's a picture of a key that is cut to match that lock cylinder. Even then there would be some trial and error getting the notches cut to the proper depth unless the picture included measurements or something that could be used for proper scaling.

This message composed solely of recycled electrons. Go green!

Sadly i doubt we will ever get an ending to this epic tale...
