PlumCrazy's Build

Mines a bad example. I had to cut the whole inner fender out almost up to the starter solenoid completly removed the fenders sledge hammerd in the cab.

But it also had no lift. Id start with completly removing the flares and usually can put a bottle jack on the tire and push the inner fenders up a bit

I don't think I will have an issue with the top...I think my interference will be the bottom rear corners of the opening...I know the sliders will need trimmed and recapped on both ends and the front bumper will need cut back and refinished again...

Yea my bumper was pretty well cut even with the back of the turn signal.

Cleaned up the rims, slung some paint, and mounted the 38.5s with the new hardware.

Not a fan of the 12" rims, but they were cheap. Id rather have 9s with beadlocks to make them 10s.

They fit....well if I mall crawl it they do. Before I commit to hacking fenders I want to regear and wheel it a few times on them.

Did a little prep work for the fender cutting extravaganza..

First thing was rev 7 of the front bumper....I trimmed back the sides and did a little face lift on the corners..

Next thing was to strip the the silly pink splash decals off the guinea pig fender.

Tore the passenger knuckle down to see what the damage was....looks like I snapped a trunnion off a 760..and deformed the ears on the inner chromo.

I already have a new pair of inner chromos, but I forgot my snap rings at the house, so I just stuffed my spare EB shaft in to keep the oil in.lol

Dad and I put up the new lift....makes things soo nice.lol

Why'd you trim the bumper?

Oh ok. I liked the original shape. I'm gonna build one similar for my black truck at some point this year.

I was in the neighborhood so I had to stop by Summit Racing last weekend and check out the clearance section.

Scored a set of USA Alloy chromos and new Accel coil pack for cheap.

Replaced all my steering rod ends last night, they weren't horrible, but had some slop. Not bad for over 30K IMO. One of the LH thread ends was locked up and I tried a little heat, but it wiped out the threads on the bung, no biggie.lol I just lopped it off and welded in a new one.

Truly nice work. I'm working on a SAS myself and was able to use your build, along with a few others for guidance. I'm really thankful for the XJ spring advise and measurements. Keep up the great work.:icon_hornsup:

I was hoping my 150 parts would be here this weekend, but they are scheduled for Monday...so I needed something to do...

I grabbed my grinder a started working on this guy

I considered getting a 78-79 axle with cast wedges for ease of narrowing, but they only have 1/4 - 3/8" tubes. I decided to go through a little extra effort and keep my 1/2" tooobs.

Wedges off

Inner C welds ground and broke loose.

1/2" wall

Chopping block

Ready for reassembly.

First pass.

Rear wedge on.

More pictures on the way.

Looking good! I'm jealous. I'd love to do that with one for my 99.
