PlumCrazy's Build

I have a counter shaft bearing that is noisy and plan on replacing it before the snow falls. I'll have to check them out. I've bought from a place in Texas last two times and they only have limited parts available.

You sure its a counter shaft noise? I almost guarantee its the pocket.

Just get all the main bearings, counter shaft bearings, shims, and seals. It will run you under $100. Add synchros for like $80 or so.

I know which one it is, its the only one I didn't replace cause they didn't have that bearing in stock. It's the one at the rear of the counter shaft...so just that bearing and two nuts is all I need really.

The synchro are new when I converted it to 4wd.

Pulled my trans last night.

Good thing I decided to pull it before the next trail ride. I would have had pick my tcase up off the ground.

Thought I would share the nifty trick I have been using to pull the front covers on M5ODs lately...I just thread a long bolt into one of the slave cyl holes and use a cheapo slide hammer weight and she pops off in two smacks..

The only obvious possible source of noise I found was the input bearing race starting to go..

Hopefully my parts show up soon so I can get the other frankin-trans together.

Since Im in tranny building mood lately....we picked up a looow mileage 3 leaker 4x4 trans last night to use as a gear donor for another hybrid trans for the B2.

Its an 02, so it has the updated synchros and shorter throw aswell.

How much is my FM146 worth to you lol

The only interest I have in a FM is strictly curiosity.lol I have not had one apart before.... And maybe use the tail shaft to build a doubler shaft.

i would love to have one of the hybrid trannys it would make pulling out when pulling my camper or any trailer for that fact much easier on my clutch

Its not hard to do. No different than rebuilding a trans...just putting back together with different parts.

Got my trans put together last night...turns out the 01+ input shaft is not compatible with the older cluster shaft. Has the same tooth count, but the teeth are cut differently apparently.....because once I got it all together it would hardly turn. Swapped in older input, redid all my shims and its perfect. No input play and its smooth and quiet.

Left over parts is always a good sign right?

I also found some more trashed bearings from my last trans.. I get pictures of those tonight.

And here is random pic I took this weekend after I got my tractor all back together..

Need to get a hood, or at least get the crease chased out of my hood, and it will be ready for a little Persian Orange.

you know, I always seem to have extra parts laying around, or one bolt that I can never figure out where it goes.

sent with a 67 Pontiac hubcap, and a hose clamp.

Got Humpty Dumpty back together again last night....

Turns out the updated synchros with the friction surface coating make a night and day difference. It glides right into every gear with ease. Normally the added effort required to shift due to the short throw shifter is noticeable, but not anymore. I think it shifts smoother than my Dads 07 M5OD.

And its quiet as can be. I think there is a little air in the clutch that needs to work out, but its still 100x better than before.

Wheeled at the Stillwell Stompers Charity ride this weekend....

Started off the day on the wrong foot and ended up in the wrong group. We were in 38s and tons territory right off the bat.

Brad popped a shaft, so we headed back to camp. Upon closer inspection, we realized his Ranger was done for the day... broke the trans cross member, blew a brake line, and tweaked the frame a little more.

So then this happened...

He let me run his big boy tires on my turd for the day. His backspacing must be way deeper, because his 14.5s poke less than my 12.5s did.

After lunch we rolled out with a different group....it was a joke, we spent most of the day on street or driving on dirt roads.

I joined up with another group (supposedly a lower tier) and had a blast. Unfortunately, all the street driving from earlier had already taken is toll on my axle joints. First big obstacle I tried ended in popping my driver shaft.
IMG_20130825_181919_975_zpsbd69ba6f.jpg

Not sure what happened... the caps were tacked and had full snap rings on them, but some how it popped apart with breaking the joint or an ear.

So we limped it out and headed to camp. I threw in my old EB short side for a band aide. I wheeled it all day no issues. I decided to have a go a 37 heaven before we headed out, which ended shortly after I popped the EB shaft.....

I haven't pulled the rest of the shaft out yet. Pretty neat break though, it broke the whole head of the shaft off.

Apparently at some point the pass outer brake pad separated and fell out as well. Not sure how, why, or when, but the rotor is trashed regardless.
