PlumCrazy's Build

I ran across this pic the other day.....So this will be happening.lol I always get snagged on that rear lip. I did like how the stock housing had a "sump" inside though that let debris settle out, but Ill give it up for 1.5" and a smooth bottom. I saw another member one here (RockRanger maybe?) epoxied some filler plates to make the lip smoother to slide over stuff, but I like the shaved approach. I have seen the shave done a lot on the Corp 14 bolt since they hang wayyyy low, but never an 8.8. There is a lot of room in these guys that can be slimmed down without getting into the ring too.

Jb weld a magnet in there to collect debris and start shavin once u cut the bottom you can probally straighten your housing pretty easy

I have a mag drain plug in my current cover already. The ABS sensor normally grabs some stuff too.

Im pretty sure the tubes are bend right at the housing on my current axle. Im not fooling with it. I want to redo the perches, truss, and weld the tubes correctly this time. I did them on the truck last time...there was oil and dirt in there, I didn't bevel the casting or pre heat, so the welds look like a 6 year old did it with their eyes closed.lol

Made progress with the blue turd..I pulled the t cases out to assess the damage.

Found a large hole buy the rear bearing (knew that already)

Then saw a small hole buy the front sprocket (not surprised)

Then found 60% of the teeth from the front sprocket laying in the bottom…oops.

I was able to use a 1354E case half I picked up off 036speed to put the rear case together. I pulled the magnet off and tapped all the holes from the e-shift BS and put plugs in them. I also used the front sprocket and chain from the 54E case.

While I had the cases laying on the bench I pulled the doubler apart for the first time since install (20K ago). Looked perfect, but while I had it apart I went ahead and used the 6 gear planetary from the 54E case to upgrade the current the 4 gear. When putting the 6 gear in place of the 4…you have to swap the shift fork and collar as well (learned thisthe hard way when I upgraded the rear case a few years ago.lol). The front cover must also be used from the 54 case since the 1350 cover has a smaller seal bore diameter.

1350 seal on top. It’s a wee bit smaller.

Something else to note...Some early 1350 cases are 3/8 SAE for the 5 trans to case bolts where as the later ones are M10. If you are not careful...you will trash the front cover. The 3/8 bolts will fit into the M10 holes, but they will begin to cross thread after about 4-5 turns. (I found this out a few years ago...luckily I caught it before ruining anything). So I now have to go back to metric mounting bolts like original case had.lol

For those interested…and AWD (4404?) Exploder case has a 6 gear planetary, but uses a different main bearing and isn’t a direct swap for the 1350/54.

Oh…and progress on the Ranger will probably slow down even more now….(not quite shifted into reverse yet, but just slower in the forward direction) I picked up this little rice rocket yesterday to DD, so now I can focus more on the F150.

It has a lot of goodies. Not that many on this site care, but it is swapped to a 2000ish B16 and Si trans, has legit adjustable shock/coil overs all the way around, jet coated long tube header, tuned by a very reputable shop, lots of “JDM” goodies too. It has typical rusty quarters, but also came with a rust free donor car shell.

Does that Honda make enough torques to tighten the Ranger's lug nuts??? :icon_confused:

Other than that you did one hell of a job on the t-case.... Do you think the missing teeth had something to do with the failure? :icon_rofl:

Don't hate on my Hondas....I have owned almost as many Hondas as I have Rangers:dunno:

Never said I was hating on them. They run for freaking ever. And I actually really liked the S2000. I wish they still made something comparable to that. I'd like to give the Toyobaru twins a test drive.

On a completely unrelated topic, did you see that Ford unvealed the new Mustang GT350R, 2017 Raptor, and the new GT?

I did. The guy I bought the CRX from actually has an S2K as well as a built STI.lol

I am NOT missing the next trip.

Lifted or not.... more throttle that explorer doesnt need windows!
