Hey guys,
Just got a '94 4x4 Auto with the 4.0 put back together after doing head gaskets. The problem I'm having is that the truck ran fine until it REALLY warmed up, meaning that it had purged all the water and coolant from the exhaust. At this point the exhaust got real hot and I even saw some sparks out the tailpipe. Around the same time, the engine started having almost no power at all, missing at idle and not being able to rev up at all. Barely pulled itself into the garage.
My thought (and I want your opinions on this): the truck was sitting for a year and a half. It was run several brief periods with a horrible head gasket rupture between cylinders 1 and 2. I'm thinking that the exhaust had a lot of water and coolant left in it from before it was parked. I'm wondering if I didn't plug the cats or the muffler, causing excess backpressure?
Thanks guys!
