I've run into problem with plug wires and could use some help.

87 BII 4X4. Installed a 1990 5.0L from a Lincoln Town Car.

I'm using 1998-2000 Explorer cast iron exhaust manifolds on my 1990 5.0L with standard SBF heads. I'm having a problem getting plug wires to cylinders #3 & #4.

No matter what I do, the boot and/or wire is right on the exhaust. I've tried standard SBF plug wires, Explorer plug wires, and Accel Universal Plug wires.

Anyone else have this problem? If so, what wire set did you go with? Other mods?

Thanks for any help!

I'm using GT-40p heads with Expo exhaust manifolds and F-150 wires worked okay for 18,000 miles, then number 6 got fried by the manifold. The original SBF manifolds wouldn't work on your swap??

Thanks for the feedback.

I ended up bending the spark plug terminal on the wires enough to clear the exhaust manifold. Also had to cut off a threaded "nub" on the manifold used to install a heat shield. This was blocking me from getting my hand on the boot to push the wire on. Finally, put on plug wire/boot high temp heat protectors.
