Hey im looking at trading my 1989 s10 blazer for a 1994 ranger splash. What engine does this come with stock? and also i found out that the splash is actually about 2 inches shorter than a normal ranger. so could i put bigger tires on it to raise it back up that extra two inches without messing up the great gas mileage it already gets? thanks in advance to anyone that can help!!

Splash's are basically trim packages. They were the first step side. In 94 you could get a regular cab short bed or an extended cab short bed. The wheelbase, overall length etc are the same as standard Rangers. They came with the same 2.3, 3.0 & 4.0L engines in both 2wd & 4wd. The main difference is the front coil springs are an inch shorter from the factory because they use Explorer springs. Other wise it was the same as an XLT.

Course I love mine and will have it as long as I live. Ya can't beat the look.

I've got 195,000+ miles on mine. Finally put a clutch in it at 188,000 otherwise it's all original. A friend with a 93 2wd 3.0 just turned 344,000 on his.

dang thats riduculous! but in a good way! haha yea the one im trading for has the 2.3 so from how the guy im trading with talks its not very powerful but with the mods he has in it he says its (technically) a v6 lol and still gets like 27mpg! lol

Explorer springs will lift a stock 4x4 Ranger 1-2", so if the splash is lower by an inch, it has to use something other than Explorer springs.

They probably set the coil buckets up an inch higher or something to lower it an inch. But I don't really know, I haven't had a chance to examine a Splash yet.

the 2.3's are great engines, you can beat the heck out of them and they just keep on asking for more, keep the oil changed and change the timing belt about every 100K (not an interference engine so the worst thing that can happen is it'll leave you stranded if it breaks) and the'll last you a good long time. They're not known for being powerhouses, but keep the rpm's a bit higher than you would with a V6 and you won't have a power problem
