I bought an 86 ranger 2.3 4 wheel drive a while back and I changed the motor because the one it had in it lost compression on one of the cylinders. The new motor I put in it is also a 2.3 and it came out of a mustang. Now my truck surges when I'm driving down the road, almost like it isnt getting the right amount of gas while driving but it is fine at an idle. I have changed both fuel pumps and the tank, I even changed the high pressure pump twice because I had been told that there was the possibility that I bought one that was bad, so i took one of of an identical truck that ran perfect. Helped for a little bit til the truck gets warmed up and then it starts surging again. I cant drive it over 30 MPH because it just wont go. I have also changed the coil, it has new plugs and wires. Please help me, I am really close to giving up, I have put about 1000 bucks into this truck in just the last 3 weeks trying to make it run right and I just cant figure it out! I also read in another post that if the fuel pressure regulator is bad that it will have raw gas in the vacuum line and i checked that and it didnt have any. Any insight would help, thanks so much!

What all did you swap from the mustang into your truck?

Your timing belt may have jumped a tooth... ???

Did the mustang engine come out of a junkyard? It may be the reason it was there. My stang did that when I changed the belt... I jumped a tooth and it was gutless above ~34 MPH...

Ill check the timing again to be sure, i guess i didnt think about that much because i just put it on when i put the motor in and somebody else told me that if it jumped time then it wouldnt run at all. Anyway, the mustang didnt come from a junkyard, it actually was supposed to run great, another mechanic i know was taking it out so he could v8 it for a drag car or something like that. I wanted to hear it run but he already had the gas tank pulled out of it when i bought it and he said he would warranty it. I took it up to him when i first got it done because it wasnt running right and i wanted his opinion and he just said he didnt know what was wrong with it but he didnt think it was the motor itself. I did have to swap over the intakes when i swapped the motors. I put new gaskets on the motor i was putting in that way it was done while i already had the motor out. but anyway the intakes were different so i had to use the one off of my old motor. Thanks for all the suggestions....
