Transmission
Automatic
I have an '84 4x4 ranger.

Motor is a '95 4.0L and tranny is a toyo koygo 5-speed.

The transmission went out and I'm having a hard time finding another to replace it with and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Maybe something better to replace it with? I understand the m5od is supposed to be better but what will I have to do in regards to making it fit? I keep finding different transmissions that I'm not 100% sure will work out.

Can I use the original bellhousing with external slave cyl.?

Shorter driveshaft? What do I replace it with?

What info do I need in regards to calling around salvage yards and picking one up (years, engine size, etc)?

Does anyone have one for sale?

do a bunch of research first. i ended up with about 700 bucks in my tk5 to m50d swap. and it took way longer than it should have. you have to spline the clutch lines together, from your master to the m50d slave, or run a m50d master. that was for a 2.9 tho, 4.0 to 4.0 might just hook up tho. the driveshaft will need to be replaced because the m50d is shorter as well.

you will need to grind off the mounting rivets on the tranny x member because it will need to be moved forward, luckily the holes are already there so just run some grade 8 bolts and nuts and your good. also your gonna need to cut the floor a bit to get the shifter to fit, and your 4x4 lever is prob the wrong one so you will need to fab that as well. definitely not just a bolt in, but well worth it when its done!!!!

You don't actually need to splice the clutch lines, you simply need to replace the 1985 syle clutch line with a 1988-92 clutch line and of course use a 1988-92 clutch slave (the master was unchanged)

no you cannot use your original bellhousing because the bellhousing on the mazda is NOT removeable.

The Mazda trans is ~2" longer than your T-K 5 trans, so you'll need different driveshafts.

There is also some surgery required to the floor.

Yes, there's a removeable floor plate but the 1988-up floor plate is longer (the rear edge
and sides are the same) the hole is extended forward.

with a 4.0 engine it's really the only way to go.
