I have a 2.3 splash rwd and it runs great its my project truck and everyday driver .The problem is that when im not using my ac it runs great but as soon as i turn on the ac i loose the little power that i have especially on the interstate

welcome to the world of having a 4cyl pick up with improper gearing .............
you need to get better rear end gears.....

you can swap in an explorer axle that has 4.10's ..........

Rear gears might help you off the line, but I think this is just a matter of the A/C robbing engine power...don't they make a gear or something that helps reduce the power drain from accessories?

You could also consider dark tint on your windows if you're living in a really hot area...

I know places like Houston get above 100* weather quite often and humidity can make that into one brutal affair so running A/C is a must for some people...

Not really many options sometimes, but Turbo charging might help...

4.10s will keep his engine operating at enough higher RPM he wont notice the AC compressor cycling.

When I had my 4cyl ranger it had 3.08s and I never used 5th gear ....... I got 27-28 mpg and I used the hell out of the AC in the summer time, never noticed it cycling.

OK...that makes sense...my Tempo had A/C and I couldn't feel a difference in the motor with it running...but it was a totally different animal...only thing I noticed was the gas gauge going down more rapidly...so I'd try cruising a bit slower from say 120 Kmph to 100...evened it out quite a bit...

man thanks guys .. im also wondering how big of a tire i can put on my truck with 15x8 rims i also am lookin for coil springs for my front endim hopin some off a 4x4 ranger will give a lil bit of a lift.and how much of a lift do u think it will give me. once again thanks for all the help im mechanically impaired.

i found these awesome nitto dune grappelers the diameter is 30.47. The tire size is 31x10.50r15 i know i need a lift but will i get by atleast for the mean time with just a leveling kit

yes, you can fit 31 in tires iwth a leveling kit. might rub a bit on lock but not too bad.

I'm not at all convinced that this is normal. The a/c barely makes a dent in power in my '94 with 3.45's, whether I'm on the interstate or anywhere else.

what exactly would I have to change to get bigger gears for a manual 2wd 2.3 4 banger.will I need to change my tranny and driveshaft ? I'm lost here oh ya is it gonna be a bitch

My trucks do the same thing. It's normal.
