how do i know my tc is locking or just overdrive?
my 1996 ranger 2wd 2.3 with 4r44e trans i think

it shifts 3 times from a stop just great but runs 3000 rpm at 55mph
it only drops about 300 rpm on last shift
would this be the converter lockup or overdrive i am getting on my 3rd shift?

i found in tech info to jump pin 53 and switch to ground for tc lockup
but also found on this site a pin out for mine that shows
pin 53 shift solenoid 3
pin 54 torque converter clutch solenoid

pin 54 is what i need to ground with switch .correct???
any help please.kurt

Drive it. At highway cruising speed light on the gas.

Tap the brake pedal just enough to turn on the brake lights but not slow you down, and keep steady on the gas.

You should see a slight increase in rpm, as the converter unlocks when the brakes are applied.
