how you doing I'm new to this site I see there are other people who have Ford Rangers so I'm not alone in this that's The reason I'm up here today b/c I need some advice. My 98 Ford Ranger XLT I had to flush out my radiator 3 weeks ago b/c I had no heat coming from my a/c system. Now the heat blowing like a champion but now I've encountered another problem my radiator started leaking fluid so I put some black pepper in there to seal it but it didn't seal the leak I believe me flushing out the radiator cause this leak. So I went to my store to stop the leak some kind aluminum shavings that is supposed to stop the leak the leak was stopped. I just had my radiator replaced and thermostat replaced also but now my heater is blowing out icy cold air what am I not doing right I believe it's my heating core but I'm not too positive what do you the issue could be?

Welcome to TRS~!

So, it was blowing hot then you replaced the rad because it was leaking and now there is no heat?

Two things...blend door could be stuck in the cool position...there is a tech article on fixing it if the door broke...but could just be a vacuum line off that controls the door...

Second thing is after you replaced the rad there may be air trapped inside the system...you didn't mention what engine you have but if it is the 2.5 there is a good chance this is the problem...the top rad hose is actually higher than the rad so it needs to be burped...could be a similar problem with the V6s but without knowing what engine it is...

check that the blend door is opening properly...that is probably the most common issue with the newer Rangers.

Yes there are a few members here with Rangers :)

Having low coolant is a big cause of no heat. Air trapped in the system as Mark says is one example where coolant isn't in there completely. Since you must have dropped all the fluid to replace the rad that would be my first suspicion.

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck from the stop leak and pepper.

try flushing stop leak from heater core.....

stop leak will plug leaks but also heater cores..

Get it up to temp, grab the heater hoses. If the core is plugged one will be hot one will be cool.

If it won't get to temp put a piece of cardboard over half the rad and see if the heat gets hot.

Finally, don't mess around with metallic stop leaks as they do plug up heater cores. If you must use stop leak get the little fiber pellets, they don't plug heater cores. It is also important to remember that no matter which kind you use, none of them are a permanent fix, you still need to find and fix the leak correctly.
