OK I have an 88 ranger with 2.9. drove it
around the block after installing an
aftermarket electric fan. I stopped and shut
the truck off and when I went to restart it I
have absolutely no power in the cab. turning
the key does nothing. no dome light no
radio light. It has a new battery and all new
connections to the battery. If I jump the
starter solenoid it will turn over. Is there a
main fuse? Please help. I'm supposed to be
leaving for an off-road trip Friday morning.

Because it turns over, it means your battery and terminals are good.

The radio and dome lights are both on fuse #8, 15A. Check for power to the cigarette lighter, it's on a different fuse, #20, 20A. If both circuits are dead, they're both fed by Fusible Link D, 16 GA Black. It powers most of the non-switched circuits in the vehicle.

Pull the connector for the ignition switch. Use a voltmeter and check for +12v at the two Yellow wires. If there's no power there, suspect Fusible Link E, 16 GA Black. It powers the ignition switch and all the switched circuits in the vehicle.

If there's no power to the radio and cigarette lighter and ignition switch, check Fusible Link C, 14 GA Green. It powers both of the previous fusible links.

The other side of FL C connects to the main positive cable from the battery, and should be bolted to the starter selenoid.

Let me know what you find, and we'll proceed from there.

Also, double-check everything to did to install the electric fan. Make sure the fan is protected by a fuse, that it's drawing power off a suitable circuit, and that it's grounded to the chassis. Make sure you didn't damage any wires or disturb any connectors when you installed it.

One more question: Did the radio work while you did your test drive?

I figured it out this morning. There was a wire coming from the solenoid into the cab that had somehow broke in two. I re connected it and it fired right up
