Very weird problem. I have a 91 2.3l 4 banger ranger. Truck starts up and runs fine. Truck idles very high when starting then will drop down to normal after about 30 seconds. The main problem is if I stall the truck for some reason, it will not start up with the key. I have to push start the truck every time it stalls. After that, the key works again every time again... Weird help....:icon_confused:

Truck still doesn't start after stalling. Good thing my driveway is downhill. Could it have anything to do with the oil pressure switch/ gauge? I don't think mine is hooked up... Again it starts with the key every time, unless it stalls.: Maybe a bad ground somewhere? dunno:

Just stalled the truck out on purpose in my driveway. I have no fuel pressure with the key in the on position and no spark when cranking.. Gauges light up. Relays seem to be working.. :icon_welder:

Ok I have an easier question.. How do you replace the check engine light bulb in the dash on a 91 ranger?

update.. Changed the check engine bulb. After stalling bulb still lights up but no start. Going to try and get codes and learn how to reset..

Pulled codes while truck does not want to start.. 51,54,31,& 84..

I dont have a scanner and aint no professional mechanic so cant really help you out with the codes. One question though....after it shalls and you try to start it, are you keeping the key on and just turning it? Or will it do it requardless if you shut the key off then start over?

even if I take the key out and start over...... I have also tried unhooking the battery for 30 min.. Didn't work either... trying to clear codes and pull more codes to figure out whats going on...

guess I'm going to work on the four trouble codes that I found... Found out that truck will not start when trying to perform KOER test. Causes the same no start condition.... Even when I unhook the jumper, does not start back up. Then pop start the truck and it works again.. I noticed that the engine isn't starting properly even when I use the key. Seems like It's barley starting then revs way high to like 3000 rpms.. Then drops down to like 800 and runs fine. Also noticed a surge like feeling while driving. if anyone can help with the following codes let me know.. 51,54,31,& 84..

Thanks for the link.. How do you clear the stored codes? I've unhooked the battery for like and hour and disconnected the jumper while performing the KOEO test and codes will not clear...
