Play in steering

Been trying to figure out why my steering sucks so bad so I go to checking things. Both rag joints are go. I have about an inch or more of play in the steering wheel when I turn it back in forth.

There is no slop down to the steering box, but after that nothing moves when the wheel is turned back in forth.

Pretty much when turning the wheel back and forth right until where there is resistance the pitman arm. Doesn't move

Tre's are nice and tight one u move the wheel past the "play"

Steering box also makes clunking noises until the tires start to move

Bad steering box?
Its hard to keep this thing in my lane with all the looseness. Steering shaft moves like its suposed to but the pitman arm doesn't until it gets past the spot of play

if the steering shaft has no play, and there's no play going into the steering box, and no play between the steering box and the wheels, that means the play is in the steering box... you could rebuild it, but it's probably easier just to replace it

That's what I was thinking it was. Would that cause tire wear problems and bumpsteer? My front end kinda sways/waddles when I go down the road. Summit has steering boxes for rbvs for under 100bux

shouldn't... but it could be a warning that your steeringbox is going to fail completely and you will loose all control of your truck...

Mine wanders around the road as well. I get used to it when I drive it every day, but after I drive my car and get back in the truck it's a little scary at first.
