Plastic Fuel Tank

Have replacement plastic fuel tank on my '92 Ranger extended cab.
End goal is fuel pump/sending unit replacement.
Have LOTS of sludge, almost like creosote or tar...nasty stuff. Don't think it will clean out.
Looking for replacement steel tank, after several google hours, unable to find one.
Anyone have a supplier? Thanks.

This is a great resource site. Unfortunately, they do not carry 1992 gas tanks.
Currently have a request in at a salvage yard for a used tank. Could probably find one at a pick your part, but at 70, just don't/can't go that direction.

Wrecking yard gas tank are often drilled to drain them before putting them out in the yard, an environmental requirement
Also vehicles are usually moved around the yard with a fork lift......................so tank damage can occur with Ranger's setup

I am not well educated in cleaning gas tanks but for caution sake I'd add plz be careful what you mix in this process

Usually marbles amd shake the heck out the tank cleans the inside really well

A '92 should have a plastic tank, why are you looking for a steel tank?

I am in Indiana and I have a plastic fuel tank from a 1994 you can have. Its clean and solid. I swapped it for a 1999 tank because its hole for fuel pump is smaller than the swap Im doing.

Did find a 1991 tank at a salvage yard about 3 hours away. Picked it up yesterday. Plastic tank, a duplicate of my old one,1992 supercab, which would not clean up. Seven products tried, not counting diesel fuel. Nothing would dissolve the tar. Replacement tank super clean. Onward with the project!
