Planning on rebuilding my 89 ranger motor

Country.... I get very good mpgs last time I checked 28 mpgs. 89 ranger 2 wd 5 speed. I take my time and am easy on the gas. Usually have several people pass me on the double line in the morning going to work. But for 28 mpgs I don't care they can get a ticket not me. Well i did receive a ticket for going to slow one time. Haha. Guess that's why they call me turtle at work. Never in a hurry to get anywhere.

Ok. So I'm going to be buying the stuff tomorrow for the tune up. I do have one issue with the truck. The oil pressure is very low. The gauge will go from the n in normal to almost nothing and there is a slight ticking sound when I start the truck. Usually goes away after 5 min or so. But for the most part it runs fine. I will post pics of my two rangers when I figure out how on here.

The oil pressure gauge is not really indicating pressure, it operates from an on/off pressure switch and has a resistor in the circuit to make the needle sit in the place it does when it shows pressure. Its basically a fake pressure indication since all it shows it that you either have pressure or you do not have pressure. It in no way indicates the actual pressure, works like an idiot light, just a needle instead.

Charles.
Is there away to check the pressure. Make sure is is where it should be. Also what is the normal operating oil psi.

What doorgunner said. And on my bumper i wrote "oh, i'm in a hurry to get things done, oh i rush and rush 'till life's no fun." Anyone that can read it needs to back the hell off, or tge hand signals come out hehe.

Don't worry about the ticking - most 2.9's do that. I'd check on the oil pressure though with a mechanical gauge or something. If that's super low, no amount of tune-up stuff will help. It could be from worn out bearings or a clogged up oil pump.

robert..... how can i check with the mechanical guage?
