So I figured out why the 97 sploder had a stiff throttle. The throttle body was corroded and gunked up around the blade. I was able to clean it and use some steel wool and MAF cleaner to make it operate smoothly. But I was going to just throw a spare good throttle body from a 98 mountaineer I had lying around. So it turns out the blade for the TPS is a different size than the 97. I didnt have the tps from that one lying around anymore but I seem to remember it was a different style where it plugged into the harness directly unlike the 97 where the TPS has a pig tail coming off of it.

So the delma is I can not find reman 96-97 throttle bodys online 98-01 is readily available. So with that said has anyone made a adapter pigtail to go from a 96-97 tps to 98-01 to use the "newer" longer blade style tps?

I would like to order one and hold onto it just because old Ford aluminum loves to break....

I would like a bolt on solution rather then grinding and trimming.

Have you checked places like CARiD for aftermarket throttle bodies? Throttle bodies don't require a tune, just swap it and go. I swapped out the dual throttle body on my Lightning for a massive oval Single Blade Throttle Body a few years ago. The performance guru on LightningRodder said no tune is required, but also won't hurt anything either. I noticed a large improvement in off idle throttle response. I may be looking for an aftermarket TB for my 98 3.0 Ranger. I'm out of options right now. Already has MAC intake, custom exhaust, Accel coils, JBA metal wires, and a chip on the computer. Runs AWESOME. Thinking after the improvement my L:ightning saw, I may try one on the Ranger as well.

BBK makes one for the exploder but im not sure what the difference is with them and they are ungodly expensive for a motor with no modifications. I just wanted a smooth operation, but I cleaned it. It works good and smooth just wanted a quick and bolt on fix for this one.

I had one on my 4.0 Ranger, it was a nice operating unit once I fixed the bind it had out of the box. I felt no real improvement in throttle response with it.
