Is it possible to have a bigger drop pitman arm on a TTB setup? Like pay someone to custom make one...with a full 6" drop. Wouldn't that fix the steering issues with 6" of lift on a TTB RBV? The only thing I see is the added stress on the steering box...and of course with articulation of the beams the issue of bumpsteer would still be present but not as much.

I am still going with a solid axle on my truck...but I was just curious.

There are lots of good tech on ttb steering here.

There is a few ways to do steering. Extreme drop pitman, fa6000. Super runner steering modified some. Custom crossover steering. Stonecrusher.

Don't abandon ttb bc of steering.. It can be fixed. It can be worked out. Let me see if I can find the link to that more recent thread about ttb steering.

Yeah I've read the multiple threads involving steering (I've created a couple!) I was just curious if that was would work.

And the FA600 is a $200 4" drop pitman arm. Why isn't there a 6" drop pitman arm? And why can't we create one?

I'm not abandoning the TTB because of the steering. It is very unique and different. But a Dana 44 works for me.

Actually now that I own a Ranger...I see A LOT of TTB lifted trucks with POOR steering. The worst I've seen was a 6" lifted ranger with what looked like stock pitman arm...LOL. I should start taking pictures...

Bc if 4" is $200 then a 6" would be higher, and by then you can buy superruner!

That's my excuse! Lol

Why can't we get one made?

But why would you want to? Why not upgrade to a cross over or k-link at that point?

6" lift; do it right. Fix the steering right

Because maybe not everyone is qualified to make a steering setup. Maybe people don't have a welder. Maybe they don't want to deal with tre's/heims

Superrunner is a box kit and an upgrade overstock... I guess your point is; sometimes the superrunner needs modified. But that poses the question of why doesn't superrunner offer a kit with a lowered centerlink?

Main thing I could see with a 6" drop pitman is flex.. And the added stress it gives to the steering box and frame.

If people are incapable of building steering-- having it done is always an option. Just like people incapable of doing trans work go have it done.

I can't see people paying $500 for a lift kit and spend the equivalent on a steering setup.

Come on...its been over 20 years of TTB/TIB on Rangers and there still isn't anything you can buy out of the box to completely fix this issue. Super runner works...and stone crusher does too. But with soft coils stone crusher doesn't work so great.

I solved this solution for me...

I haven't had any issues with my home built Stonecrusher style steering. And I'm rocking the stock pitman arm.

This is exactly what baffles me...
Superlift had a wonderful idea but instead they botched the whole thing up by not putting the centerlink where it belongs. Maybe there's just so much $$$ in mall-crawler lifts for 2011 & 2012 F350s and Chevy 2500s that they can't be bothered to fix the engineering screwups that took place some 25-30 years ago.

As for a true 6" lift drop arm, I would assume the reason one doesn't exist is because of the leverage it would put on the steering box sector shaft (even the 4" drop FA600 arm is kindof pushing it IMO). At that point you're far better off with some type of centerlink setup where the centerlink takes the majority of force imposed on it by the wheels.

having failed sector shafts resulting in ripped arms off the box.....with a reg factory pitman arm as well as the drop arms....

no....bad idea...

6 in drop is retarded....

but important to note...the physical 4 in drop is good for 6 in and a bit more lift....

past that....you can make a six inch physical drop arm....its done quite often....look at all the retarded steering web pages out there for ghetto steering...

with a torch you can make a 5 in plus drop arm with many of the old ford/dodge and cc type 600 plus series long pitman arms...some are over 8 inches long....so fire and force and some baking controlled cooling in 500 decending oven over 5 hours will net a near 6 in drop arm and horrible steering feel.

It probably hasn't been done because a 6" arm is retarded long and unsafe. Too much leverage. Simply extending something that takes as much force as a pitman arm is a bad idea. Even the FA600 is a bad idea. I like the k-link better.

There is plenty of ghetto fab if you must see, google scary steering or something to that extent.

Ah makes sense! What looks good on paper isn't always best for real world applications...as this has proven:icon_thumby:

And yes I've seen the scary steering thread before. Pretty unbelievable!
