so not to highjack a post, but how much time do i have on the new felpro's that i just assembled my long block with? wish id read this a few months ago...

Don't know but my OEM ones went at 260K, doubt you'll get anywhere near that.

Either you have zero time or they will last a bit.

The problem is the need to use RTV 'cause Fel-Pro is too cheap these days to put end gaskets on. Bad bad bad bad bad.

I do recall my felpro lower intake gasket being junk for my 2.9L. I later bought one from Napa and I haven't had any issues (3+ years later), and IMO was much better quality than the Felpro. But it didn't leak because it was a Felpro (it might have had a little to do with it, but I don't know), long story. Rest of the gaskets have been working fine.

Be careful about torque sequence diagrams for the 4.0L. At least some of them are BACKWARDS. ALWAYS torque from the center outwards.

FYI, only some 4.0Ls have EGR tubes.

Napa sells lower intake gaskets that aren't fel pros? What brand are they? Do they hold up well?

I've never used a NAPA lower intake gasket, and I won't.

Why? 'Cause their valve cover gaskets leak. Their exhaust gaskets blow in a day. Bearings last a few months. And so on. I've had FAR too many early failures from NAPA parts. I know they don't make them, but the local NAPA batted .000 for over a year until I'd had enough; SOMEthing is wrong in the supply chain.

I went through four cat-input gaskets in a week before I gave up and put a Fel-Pro in there. It has lasted since (4 years).

X2 on crappy NAPA parts

I love their u-joints, They give you such good practice on putting them in, I'm a professional U-joint installer now. Damn things went in 2 weeks.

On that note I would never buy gaskets from NAPA

Well I to wish I would have read this. I did my lower & upper intake, fuel rail, and valve covers with the felpro kit about 14 months ago. I also just did my roomates last weekend with the felpro kit. I used the RTV both times.

about 4 weeks ago I cleaned my engine and now I have lost a little bit of coolant and it smells like it when the truck gets warm. I really really hope these gaskets did not just fail on me or ill be pissed!
