I'm trying to sell my 2.5L 99 ranger and I want it top notch when I sell it. I have had a pinging problem for quite some time and a ticking while idling. The pinging is worse with A/C on and idles rough while its one. Also, when the engines cold it will hiss in between shifting and no codes are showing up. I have notice bad gas mileage but may have to due with the 31's. I have replaced the whole egr system, cleaned the mass airflow sensor, change the spark plugs and wires, sprayed to check vacuum leaks, ran seafoam through gas tank and vacuum brake line and changed the oil regularly. I have research some threads and cant seem to figure it out. Some one has suggested changing the fuel filter and running seafoam though it again. Although it only has 92,000 miles so idk if this would make a difference. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Wouldn't hurt to put a new filter on. Have you also checked your IAC valve. Your truck should idle up a little when the A/C engages to compensate for the amp draw it pulls.

The A/C is powered by a belt that is driven by the crank pulley. I don't see how running the A/C would increase amp draw. The fan does not draw that many amps and the current to engage the A/C clutch can't be that much either. What else would draw amps?

He was probably talking about the the horse power draw from the A/C compressor. If the compressor is running and the engine can't/won't compensate for it, it adds a bunch of load.:annoyed:

Checked the IAC valve. It made my truck stall when I unplugged it ( like the haynes manual said) and the volts were reading fine.

ticking

Pull the valve cover and check the condition of the cam, rockers and lifters. Ticking is useually valve related. Also, if the timing belt hasn't been replaced yet, now would be a great time to do it before it fails.:headbang:

Yeah i haven't checked timing or replace timing belt. That might be causing spark knock/pinging. I will have to check it out or replace it. Also, is anyone familiar with the pcv valve on a 2.5L? I had idling problems before and realize the pcv valve was leaking. I was told by a decent mechanic to cap it b/c it was a universal pcv valve and that part should of been capped. Any replies appreciated.

I'd like to add my temp gauge isn't reading anything. I've done some research and found that might cause pinging?

Ya, if your temp isn't reading the senser might be bad. Then the computer thinks the engine is cold and runs rich. Sometimes a code will tell you. You can also test the sensor.
