My pinging improved a whole lot with some TLC after I bought my 98 3.0.
I filled up with gas in NJ on my way home from work last week and the pinging returned, put it down to the gas. Filled up at my normal place, pinging still there. I've noticed in the past, if I floor it up a hill, it gradually improved.
Will my Fi system cure itself with time and known good gas. Can I reset anything to speed it's recovery?

Could be carboned up if the PO put a lot of high octane-rated gas in it.

This is for a 4.0, but it's still comparable.

You can do a lot of decarboning just by spraying some throttle body cleaner in the intake while running.

seafoam will help w/ carbon as well (read the instructions first, too much will cause hydro lock!!!) id have my o2 sensors checked as well just in case.
