1988 ranger long box duel gas tank. Looking for pics on how spare tire was mounted in bed. If any one has one please post pic. Thanks people.

this is my own mountings, usually I mount the tire on the drivers side (for reasons of visability when changing lanes or backing up) usually I put it up against the cab wall but also can be put in the back corner of the bed. Heres 2 pictures, One is a shortbed, the other is a longbed. both spares are 235/75/15 size. its a tighter fit with a shortbed as you can see. the trucks pictured are both gen 3’s, a 93 & a 94.

If I remember correctly, the first picture racsan posted is the original position.

If you are looking for alternatives, there really isn't much out there. Throwing it up on a roof basket is pretty much it and then you have to watch the weight rating and where you drive as to whether it's a good idea to do that. Other alternatives is grill mount via a custom mount (which you don't see much of and I guess for good reason), tailgate bracket mount (again, custom build), or building a platform in the bed with a hole cut in it somewhere for the spare to lay in (but that takes away from bed depth and storage).

I purchased the truck with a front hitch. It has a spare tire mounted in front of grill and works well but my boys said it looks like an old man's truck with it there. The truck came with the original in bed bracket. It is 4 peaces and I'm not sure of original location or how it gos together. He had bedliner sprayed so covered up old hole locations of bracket.

Would love a pic of original stock tire bracket in the bed without the tire on it so I can get a good idea how this stock bracket mounts and gos together.if any one has one take a pic for me please thanks

Best i can do atm, from the 87 accessory catalog.

my 87 long bed dual tank has the bracket in the original place i just dont have the part that goes through the tire but ill clear the snow off and take a picture tomorrow morning

Never knew they bolted the spare in the bed on the dual tank version rangers.interesting

Here's the same application in a short bed. Didn't use the 'L' bracket that mounts ahead of the tire mount bracket. Made my own thru bolt from all thread, small cable & lock deters lazy thieves, 235x75x15 is largest tire I can fit.

Wilcox, you have 4 pieces? I'd sure like to see a photo of them, I have only 2. Owner's manual shows a retaining plate & wing nut which I've never seen, even shows a pad for the tire to sit on. Photo below.
