She has about 250K miles, still runs like a top! Kind of slow, obviously. 4 speed, Base Trim, the original 26 year old Topper too..The truck is totally original except for a fresh paint job on that front bumper this weekend. There was a tow bar on it that needed to be removed, so we spruced it up. The rear bumper still has the McDonnell Ford Truck Dealer sticker on it from when it was brand new. Interior damage is just the Dash cracks and color fading right on top. I have looked into one of those "skin" dash pads that can be had on Ebay for 150 clams, but I kind of like this original look. The seats are cloth and just a little worn on the drivers side. Door panels and dash face and floor all look like new now that we've scrubbed it up with 409 and treated all the vinlyl and rubber with Aerospace 303 treatment.

We have cleaned up the engine bay which was really coated with ton of Cosmoline right when it was new. Even the Ford Emblem on top of that beautiful Aluminum Valver cover came shiny clean! The underside is very clean too because of all the rustproofing. The truck spent 3-4 years in Michigan first, then moved to Utah/Idaho for the last 23 years or so. Dad hadn't waxed it in years. She came out pretty unscathed, though. I'm going to enjoy reliving my youth for a while..

Cheers all,

Brian

thats a nice pickup!! .. i missed out on picking up a rust free one in my area

Boy that shined up nicely. I've never seen a diesel Ranger. Very nice.

Only problem is getting parts. Engine parts are iffy, the diesel uses a different tranny than the gas engine for which I'm told parts are nearly non-existent.

i thought the diesel used a TK

Update on the Diesel..

Well, the Ranger took a big poop on the side of the road back in April, so we got my Son an '01 Focus ZX3, which he loves..

Meanwhile, the Rattler has been tucked in the shop without any attention..till yesterday. I can't find the serial number on the engine block, so it has been tricky to get parts from Caterpiller..but they insist it's on there somewhere behind the fuel pump.

Now, how to get the fuel pump off!?:yahoo:

I'm all done!

Ranger is up and running again..labor was 750 clams, parts about 500 for a complete top-end rebuild/valve job.

Added K&N air filter right on to the intake, enlarged the breather tube on the top of the valve cover to lighten up the blowbye pressure (aids in preventing oily residue pushing out under seals), and new glow plugs..

I'll be posting more vids and pics soon

Awesome! It's good to see these old engines getting love with how scarce they are.

That's awesome. I am very jelly. There are a few around me that pop up Craigslist a couple times a year, bur they want like 5k for them

Sent from, wait how did this get here?
