I see a lot of recommendations for off-road tires or street tires on lowered trucks here but none for stock street. I'm thinking of running a 60-series tire instead of 70 on my 99 B2500 for the spring/summer for a more car-like ride (Winterforces coming off soon). This is at stock ride height and I was thinking Kumho Estas at 225/60/15.

Just wanted to see some pics of a similar setup, wondering if it will look goofy or not and also how the handling/ride is if anyone has done something similar. I've heard about speedo errors and gas mileage but it seems negligible, especially for an around town beater.

I don't have pictures, but I've seen it before, it does look goofy to me, and it will make your speedometer read faster than what you're actually going. If you want a more "car like" ride, I would suggest stepping up a size or two in wheels, and then running a smaller sidewall tire. If you were to run mustang 17" wheels, and 255/45 or 245/50 tires, that will be close to your stock tire height and give you the ride you're looking for.

The Gen III Splash came O.E. with P235-60R15's.

235/60s are going to have a taller sidewall than 225/60s

I was about to say that doesn't look too bad at all. Larger wheels would be nice but the truck is just a dented up beater so not looking to drop any more money on it. It's just going to need tires.

Yep, my 95 supercab came stock with P235/60R15's as well. I believe they were standard on trucks that got the 15x7 chrome steel wheels, as shown on Nitro's Splash.

You have to remember that the splash sits an inch lower than a regular XLT from the factory and the super cabs sit lower as well from the extra weight/wheel base.

Edit: Nevermind, gonna keep my eyes open for mustang wheels and tires on CL.

Here's a quick shortcut to tire diameters, regardless of rim size.

The last digits after the tire size...try to match that to what came stock.

For example, the P225/70-15s I took off this 2000 were 100S (27.7"). The P235/65-16s I installed are 101S (28.0"). Minimal change in diameter, means minimal effect on the speedo and ABS. My change actually made the speedometer closely match my GPS speed.

Although my new tire/rim combination added un-sprung weight (tires and rims are both heavier), it improved the handling and made the ride smoother. More un-sprung weight also affects your gas mileage.

From reading the reviews at tirerack.com about Kumho's, several said they appear one size narrower after getting them. Just the way they are made I'd guess.

Here's my 2003 with 255/60-15s on it. It's stock ride height. I don't like the looks of 225s, to me they are too narrow. I have 245/70s Eagle IIs on there right now and they look good also. You can go to a site like TireRack.com where they post tire diameters so you won't throw your speedo off. The stock tire, and both of those I mention are within a quarter inch diameter of each other.

Just for a comparison, this is my '96 with 235/75-15s and the 2003 with 235/70-15s. The 4x4 looks a bit "lite" with the 235s while the 2wd looks good with them.

The 50/60/70 etc on the tire is the aspect ratio. A 235, 245, 255 etc is the width. A 255/60 means that the tire sidewall is 60% as tall as the tire is wide.

I've got a set of 17x9 Mustang rims. 1999 or 2000, I think. I'll check the year for sure tomorrow. Just let me know if you are still in need of a set
