Phantom of the opera plugs

What causes this? The truck has new heads. This is on cyl one and two exhaust side.

Looks to me like you have some oil leaking in from that side of the plug. Just enough that it doesn't get burnt up, too.


Perhaps bad valve seal, but also could be an excess of oil coming through your PCV valve...

Did you have the cylinder compression checked when you replaced the head? I also wonder if it isn't from the blow-by past the rings.

Any advice on checking the valve visually with the cover off? Id say valve since it just got done and is only on that side of the plug. Not the intake plug and not the whole plug. The exhaust plugs on 1 and 2 are showing a specific single point the oil is coming from on that side inbetween them. #1 is a lot brighter white but still has a phantom side pointing towards 2.

No. Not really... This is something that may be necessary to take off your entire head to diagnose.

I've never had a plug/combustion chamber problem.

Do some looking around, maybe you'll find some easier help.

Do you have a haynes manual kicking around? Doesn't even have to be for the car...

They typically have a page in the back showing a bunch of spark plugs, and what the likely causes of each look is.
