Got a 97 xlt. Recently a "ding" sound starting coming on while I'm driving but I don't see any warning lights on. It's just random. It'll ding once or twice and then it won't happen again. Happens maybe once a week.

I figure if I get a list of reasons why a Ranger would ding, I could go thru a process of elimination. Anyone have ideas? Thanks.

my guess is a bad door switch or seat belt switch. point your rearview mirror at your dome light so you can see if it flickers on when the ding occures. if the switch only closes for a breif moment, it might be just a quick, dim blip of the dome light that hasnt caught your eye yet.

thats been happening to me lately too im almost positive its the door dinger theres a couple people with threads about this issue so i guess its a common problem i wouldnt worry about it

if you dont mind having the door dinger pull the plasic off the steering colume and look around the key tumbler. there is a single wire and all it does is ground to the key pull it out and tape the end or cut it if you cant get it out. no more ding and the light will still come on when you open the door. light might still come on but i never had the battery die from it staying on. if i remeber correctly it was a single green wire.
