I was looking at upgrading the coil pack for my 2006 3.0L Ranger. Some companies offer performance coil packs and I just wanted to get some opinions if any of you out there have done the same, or know of something reliable.

Thanks!

There is nothing as reliable as OEM, simply because of numbers. There were many millions of those tried out in the field.

There is also no such thing as better than perfect. A spark is a spark, and if you're emissions are good, you are burning the fuel as well as you can (and they WERE good from the factory).

Performance coil packs on a stock engine are nothing short of a scam. It will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING beyond OEM except perhaps look good. It's not an upgrade.

So I guess upgrading the ignition system wouldn't be worth the benefit if I wasn't upgrading something else at the same time?

Even if you were upgrading something else, an "upgraded" ignition system is of questionable value.

You might consider going there if you have a demonstrated problem, such as carbon-fouling spark plugs or ignition misses, due to a major change to the engine's configuration.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

And question every last claim of "more power," as almost all of them are complete lies.

Performance Distributers (maker of Screamin Demon), MSD, or Accel do any reliability testing on their products, as required by SAE standards on OEM
electronic components. Therefore, the failure rate on the aftermarket ignition parts will be much higher than the OEM parts.

Did you mean to say they don't do testing like OEM?

There are some things Ford dropped the ball on, coil packs for 3.0's are not one of them

you could get one of those cool whistles that you put in your tailpipe that sounds like a turbo! im jk! i agree with these guys!
