Performance 4.0 down on power?

UPDATE:
Engine is running, and we have results from the dyno! 187hp, 237tq at the rear wheels. There is a tiny bit more on the table but this should be about 240-250hp at the crank. The exhaust is too restrictive, moving from 2.5 to 3” will help this.

Im pretty happy with this especially considering this dyno result is on a hub dyno, and it’s a 4wd drive truck, a4ld, transfer case and a 9” rear axle. Was hoping for the 200-250 rwhp mentioned in the performance 4.0 build written years ago, but I bet this will feel like a rocket in the desert!

damn how did i miss this thread...

with a non slipping clutch and a manual it would be close to 200. very hard to crack....these engines are not very good at making power....but if you keep them cool they are tuff...

250 is about all these can do with sane money...

I was hoping young bob would be interested in this race but to no avail...

we were setting up for a 4.5-4.8 stroker. but he has zero interest.

he has not been to the hammers yet but has been to moab.....unless people have driven back door...resolution and thunder its hard for them to understand what is being asked of the platform... but it can do it.

the new rangers are off the chain though. surprised anybody is messing with these now.

Are you saying 250 at the crank or wheel?
I’d be willing to bet with a 2wd manual trans and a factory 7.5 or 8” this engine would definitely be at 200. The 9” and the tcase have a decent amount a drag and the a4ld has a lot of loss. Tuner thinks a better/corrected intake tube (has a bit of a kink in the aluminum tubing he thinks is acting like a wall slowing down air flow) and 3” exhaust is going to put it at 190+ at the wheel.

Out of a 4.0?? If so how did you plan todo it?

I’ve only raced hammers once so far and I was very under prepared. We broke both front axles and cracked the tail shaft housing around mile 15. After that I spent some time racing with NorCal Rock Racing before deciding to get more seat time with some desert races, and working the bugs out of it.

Hoping to race KOH next year or the year after and see what we can do!

several ways to do that. offset build and block cut and sleeve was the intention with the crank.

rods and pistons there are several shelf options to work.

the mid layout was 20k. 20k for a cologne. to run the street class.

i would buy a brand new raptor ranger to run that class now. its the smartest way to do it. and cheapest in time and money if you want to use a ford ranger best i can figure.
