My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Good morning. I just bought my '93 ranger a few weeks ago and I'm still nosing around to see what needs to be fixed. The other day, I noticed a hose coming from the PCV valve that is plugged off with a screw. So I am wondering what it SHOULD go to and whether or not it needs to be fixed.

There are 2 hoses coming from the PCV. One (the larger one IIRC) goes to the intake manifold or somewhere up under the throttle body. The other is the dead-headed one. It is just laying loose near some kind of plastic canister thingy that doesn't appear to have any unused connections. Where does this hose belong?

Thanks.

That hose may have been the coolent hose used to heat the PCV. Mine is heated with coolant, newer ones are heated electrically.

There would have been a "T" connection in the heater hose.

That's an interesting idea. Never heard of it before. Can't imagine why you would want to heat that. Wouldn't it need a return path? What if it leaked through the PCV into the valve cover or intake?

Some other research is leading me to believe it may have something to do with the purge solenoid for fuel vapor recovery. I saw that on some forums about explorers and vans with these engines.

If anyone knows for sure, I'm still listening.

For anyone who needs this info, the answer is....

"It goes to the fuel vapor recovery purge solenoid valve."

I found the valve tucked away with a broken barb fitting on top. Something else to add to my next Rock Auto order.
