"PCKNPLL" BUILD THREAD! NA @ 180hp!

Well I am only 24, but 2.3 mustangs is what I used to race on dirt since I was 15. I have a 2.3 mustang and ranger. 2.3's are what I learned on. And I have dreamed of building many different configurations of them. I also went to the University of Northwestern Ohio for their high performance program. I'm not near as experienced as you but I live for 2.3's

You seem to have learned very well. On another note how close is your 2.5 single plug engine to be being put in your 89, if it's already in there how's it doing compared to the 2.3?

That head us meant for a high hp turbo, or high rpm high hp na motors. You know the kind that make 9000 rpm look easy. With high rpm, you can use a larger port, this is due to the increased engine speed. That allows the port velocity to stay high. When you aren't running that high of engine speeds the port velocity suffers greatly. One of the downfalls to reduced port velocity is the fuel doesn't stay suspended in the air well. It will cause puddling and fuel sitting on the port walls. Plus on this particular intake you can't very well port the whole port, which means your port velocity stays high in the runners until they get to where you have hogged it out and its going to slow down. Then when it goes into the head that fuel that falls out of suspension will pool badly and your low rpm and mid ranger are going to suffer a lot. It might clean that fuel out when you get up high in the band, but its going to run rich, very rich while it cleans it out and will suffer. Not to mention the turbulance causing airflow issues in the head side of the port.

There may be smaller carbs that are tunable, but the carb adaptor offered by most companies for the efi intake are a direct bolt on for the Holley 350.

Holley 2bbl 350 it is then!

This is what I WANT though! A HIGH REVVING, carbed 2.3. Pretty much a race motor in a STREET truck! That i can take to the tracks and dig into her on the weekends and track days!

I'm not arguing that this intake manifold is going to BLOW every car on the street away... Far from it! BOTH of you OBVIOUSLY have more knowledge than I, as this is the FIRST motor iI will COMPLETELY build oit of the truck to be dropped in!

I just would like a well built (ATLEAST 10:1 CR), high revving (ATLEAST 7-8K PREFERABLY!) streetable truck, that will surprise the hell out EVERYONE by being NA!

OPINIONS?

Well first I built it as an 89 2.5, with the 89 injection. It was a definite improvement in torque in the low rpm range. However it didn't have anything to show for it up top. Then I had injection problems, and broke a piston (overheated it while playing.) so I put the 4 plug head together. Now ita got an efi intake, custom milled out up top by me, and a custom made adaptor plate, made by me ( both done in high school) and a motorcraft 500 cfm carb on it. I am also running the stock roller cam, and I was having throttle response issues. I ended up playing around with the power valve and found that it runs much better with a spring so stiff it probably doesn't open anymore. Now I'm down to finishing details, the water neck leaked after I got it put back together, and my flatbed is almost done so I haven't driven it much since then

I figured that motor up, with everything they bought to build that 2.3, they spent over $14,000. If they paid full price for the parts.

ONLY thing they paid for was the damn longblock 8 plug that they had for Lima "comparison" reasons! Lol

Everything else, Mr. Esslinger himself brought ALL that in there, ready to bolt up (EASILY 14K in parts! ) just to show what HE could do with an NA race motor, single-handedly!

I REALLY tripped when I saw him start to break out the snips and freehand cut the baffle, to PERFECTION on the intake mani! Amazing. Simply amazing!

PICS OR IT NEVER HAPPENED!!! Lol jk jk...

But really, I would LOVE to see pics of this setup! Was it a 2.3 bored over or a "stock 2.5"? Stock EFI manifold??? I'd like to see the adapter plate too, all I can find are Holley 350 2bbl adapters! Will they fit ANYTHING else? And can you buy the type that you made? I guess I could ALWAYS make one myself at the machine shop!! Hehe...

I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about Side Drafts or bike carbs (bike carbs can be had for SO CHEAP!) but the tuning would be a damn HASSLE and I'd have to make a custom intake manifold as well! But that's the ONLY reason I don't put a carb on every intake pleneum... Lol

On another note... I picked me up a sand blaster, but my old Speedaire Compressor is begging for a rebuild! Haha.... It gets the job done, slowly.

Here's pics of all that, including one pass with the gun before my compressor tripped the damn breaker! Haha... She'll look real clean when DONE, check out the LEFT side of the mani... Head is next! (And block)

My "cabinet" FOR NOW! Lol...

I finished up my valve cover too....

I also painted my wheels.... But I'll probably end up blasting them now. I duno yet. Just flat black "rim paint". As you can see, they haven't had ALL their coats yet. Another good 50HP for ALL OF THIS!

The Holley adaptor is nice because you could bolt any stock dport carb directly onto it. The d port (and oval port) intakes will accept a Holley 2bbl if you take the carb and adaptor.

Gotcha... Do you have a pic of your engine setup?? :icon_cheers:

Here's how everything sits as of today!

Someone gave me these 16's... SHOULD I run em until I get my Diamond Racing Steelies? Lol...

I just uploaded my exhaust build videos.

Nice... about to watch them! :icon_thumby: :icon_welder:

Check out this "Street Car/Truck Class" that I will be doing after the build... this is why I MUST be able to handle decent! This is a fun class, you must have valid inspection, tags, it MUST be a street vehicle!

BUT, THERE'S NO LIMITS! There's guys bringing 600-800HP cars up in there... I saw a guy wreck a "BRAND NEW" (30 day tags) Camaro SS with a 100 shot, his FIRST GO AROUND! Ran it smack into turn 3's wall - DEAD ON!! :dunno:

You can't hit the cones and they also allow you to do "Time Trial Runs" if you don't want to go head to head!

FUN, FUN STUFF!!!! I used to have a STOCK S10 I would run out there, get smoked, but it was beat up, so I DID NOT CARE!

I actually won one night, when I was driving my '97 Eagle Talon TSI (AWD Turbo)!

Here's a lil teaser....

I painted my front bumper and trim (anything chrome) and also tinted my rear tails!

Heres soms picsss...the rear tails are still taped, I just hit em a few mins ago!

IT LOOKS LIKE A MINI F150 FOR SOME REASON! TO ME ATLEAST! Lol, not surd why??

JUST TRYING TO MAKE IT LOOK A BIT BETTER! I THINK THIS HELPS... :D

I wouldn't bother with those rims. I have never been a huge fan of multi-pattern wheels. They just never seem to ride right to me.
