patch panels

Ford ranger 90 with a short box and I plan to replace upper wheel arches and about half way forward and back for the lower sections. So 3 panels for one side. My question is has anyone used the long box lower sections which are half the price when you don't need the wrap around part either forward or back. I noted the upper arch is the same for both long and short box.

Just an idea, as someone who is watching for a nice, clean, straight and solid longbox bed... nice, clean, straight and solid shortbox beds seem to grow on trees.
