Passenger Side Floor Leak

My truck seems to have a leak in which water is coming up from under the truck and into the floor. At least that's what it seems like. I looked hard around the forums and looked for a leak in the AC. The carpet does not seem damp around the ends, just around the puddle and there are not any drips coming down from the dashboard. I put newspaper down for a while and everything seems to come from below. I sprayed water underneath and got a small amount of water in the truck later on after driving down the road. All the drops were concentrated around a crack between 2 pieces that look like they are supposed to be sealed. There is also a little rust around this area which seems to indicate water being there more often than anywhere else.

Here are some pics of the area in question. Is is possible the water is just getting pushed in by the air when I'm at speed? The truck has been in the rain in the past and not leaked like this, at least that I've noticed. Only thing I've changed lately is new tires.

I was thinking of using JB Weld to seal the area that seems to be leaking but I wanted to check in here before I did anything to see if I was on the right track. I'm also going to undercoat it soon so that may help seal things up too.

Thanks for any suggestions or ideas :) I'm trying to get my truck as ready as possible before the winter weather hits over here on the coast of Maine. The salt is horrible....

I don't know the newer trucks so I can't help you with specific spots for leaks. I'm also not a body-man. What I can tell you is you have to get rid of the rust before you try to seal it up, otherwise it will keep rusting out past your fix and leak again. I think your on the right track with under coating but again, get rid of any rust first. Use mechanical means first,eg;wire brush, wire wheel, sand paper, whatever. Then use a rust converter to catch all the rust that wasn't removed mechanically, especially on the seams. I'd use a flexible seam sealer, go to a store specializing in body work supplies and tools and ask them for recommendations. Some one else should be able to correct any mistaken ideas I've given. Maybe shoot Multiranger [?spelling] a P.M.
Good luck,

Richard

Common problem in alot of rangers.....may in fact be the back window. the floor board is the lowest part of the cab and water will gather there. Happened to me and SEVERAL other people.

something i've found better than jb weld is called Marine-Tex. it's a marine grade epoxy for both above and below the water line. not cheap, but it is really excellent stuff. you can find it at most boat shops. as was said already, get all the rust out first before you seal it up. good luck.

I just ran a hose around the back window and did get some water inside. In fact when I shut the doors I saw a little water bubble appear around the top corner of the rear window seal. I guess thats a good a place as any to start. I'm still going to undercoat it too tho. Gotta get that rust off and blocked before the salt hits hard.

Thanks for the tips everyone! :icon_cheers:
