Well, Hell froze over!

For the first time, I have passed a NYS inpection/emissions on the first try. I have failed for everything from a broken frame to bad windhwild wipers before (though not all on the 98, but It hasn't ever passed first shot either).

However...

I have the ranger fuel filler leak. The hose from the ford dealer is $375. I finally got the whole radiator hose thing finished up, I have just been too damn busy to get everything finished up...still have the plugs to do, got the timing belt done though.

This is a busy time of year for me, as I just finished up with my local antique equipment club just had it's local show, and I went all out, even brought out my 4HP Novo (4 HP, 800 lbs, 425 RPM), so I have been working on the stuff I like to work on for a change.

anyhow, I'm legal for anohter year!

Until next year. :stirthepot:

NY is too choked with EPA requirements. If I every live there and they failed my Ranger, I would really question there standards. I'm too paranoid about anything that go can wrong, so I fix/repair anything/everything might go wrong.

That's a pain. I haven't been subjected to a safety inspection since about 1989 when I was in Hawaii. That was a proceedure rife with corruption. I got my 1977 F100 passed by buying 2 new tires. I towed a 1976 Grand Prix into the Sears service center on Oahu, got it safety inspected without it ever even starting by also buying tires for it.

In both cases I knew the system was being circumvented. There's just something wrong with having the inspection station also being a retailer.

My mom lives in Minn too!

You can get away with murder out there. At least where she lives.....haha

I didn't think NYS had emission checks other than(south of Dutchess co.) metro NYC?
Out here in NE Ohio we have emission only.So as long as you pass e-check your good to go for 2 yrs by the state. Just pay the 19.50 for the test.
Shitty bald tires, bad steering, cracked frame you name it,the state don't care. That, scares the crap out of me way more than cars failing an emission test.

Congrats!

MaZuki cost me $2,000 the first time I had the emission test done...had to replace the exhaust system and that ran into problems with the manifold...bolts broke while installing the new down pipe...second time cost me $32...passed with flying colours...

My Ranger hasn't been on the road since I started the rebuild...but I'm sure it will pass the safety...still not sure about the emission testing though...they've given me some conflicting stories about how it works with a rebuilt vehicle...hope to find out soon enough though...

No inspections here.... I remember my dad telling me about when we lived in metro Detroit there were inspections or testing. He would register our vehicles up north at our cabin off Higgins Lake where there were none to advoid getting tested.

where i live tn not even e-checks no cats no problems.all you got have is ins.:clapping:

Yeah, I know about OH not having safety, that is one of the reasons I am considering moving out that way.

For the past 5 years or so if you have a post 1996 vehicle they scan your computer checking for codes. ANYTHING other than a 100% no code condition causes you to fail. I failed one year because the NYS computer was *%@$ed up, the shop tried to sell me a new computer. They then refused to let me take the truck, because they had (Illegally) scraped the sticker (I still had 2 more days left in the month!!). I ended up going to another place and failing on my windshield wipers, but the computer passed...the other shop called later and said that they proved the computer was screwed, and that I didn't need a computer....I told them that they got the last of my business.

Most of the time I come up with something stupid for the shop to fix while it is in there, otherwise I fail.... Or what has occurred before, I take it home, fix it, then fail for something else on the reinspection. The inspection is $21, with the state getting most of that, so most shops try and screw you over if you fix your own stuff.
