I have a 97 extended cab w/4.0L auto and rear drums. I think the right rear parking brake is stuck engaged, thus locking the rear wheel in drive. Can I disconnect that side parking brake and will the left still work? All new parts, but the shoes will not seat against the top post. The truck has 280,000 miles and is subject to snow and salt.

do you mean the parking brake is sticking? that used to happen all the time to me in the winter. The quickest and easiest way for me to get it 'unstuck' was to put the truck in 4lo and just drive around in circles slowly and eventually the shoes popped loose... it didnt help that i only had an open diff. But the way i see it you have to get it to pop loose before you can take the drum off to fix anything anyhow.
