park not holding

2004 ranger 4x4 4.0 eng. auto trans. When I put it park it won't hold sometimes and makes a clicking sound. What would cause this.

Parking pawl broken OR a loose clamp holding the linkage. Look for loose Torx bolts on the clamp on the steering column above the pedals area. Might get lucky ��.
