I picked up a 93 ford ranger 4.0 auto and the park does not work at all, i was told it could bea busted pawl and that it wasnt hard to replace, However i have found no info on this at all and i was hoping someone here could help me out on the process of fixing it or figuring out whats wrong, i got the new pawl and spring as well, thanks ahead of time

I could be wrong but i think to replace the parking pawl requires a complete teardown and its one of the last components to be removed from the case. Never done a ford auto, but thats how it is on a 700R4 GM.

according to the manual on this site its right on the end of the tail stock, im just not sure how to go about doing it

Check you're linkage first to be sure the lever pushs the linkage all the way to the end.
The parking pawl on a 4x4 is right inside when the xfer case is removed.
It's possible, it was installed wrong during a previous xfer case install.
Sorry I don;t have pics for you...

i will do so when i change the fluid, ill let you guys know more when i do

Before pulling the transfer case off or anything else. Disconnect the shifter cable and push the shifter on the transmission all the way into park. If park then works the cable needs to be adjusted.

If its really broken its not insanely hard to do on a 4x4. After you take the transfer case off. Its pretty much right there . swap with a new one and reverse. couple hours tops.

pulled the cable off and it will not go any further, asuming its the pawl. hopefuly ill get once nice weekend to try and replace it, but thanks for all your help guys
