Hey gang, I lurk around here and use your search function from time to time... but I haven't found an answer to my question that way, so here goes. My 1995 Ranger 4.0 has been idling rough, likely a vac leak. I've been through most of the lines and decided it was time for plenum gasket(s). I went to Advance and they sold me this: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/felpro-plenum-gasket-set-ms-94683/15780163-P?searchTerm=ms94683

I went home and installed it in spite of the fact that it looked nothing like the 3 o-rings that were in there originally. My problem was not solved by replacing this, so I want to confirm that the paper gasket (with rubber o-ring shaped portions) is really the correct part and that you really just torque it down to standard spec (which I think is 18 ft lbs.)

The job wasn't that hard, just want to make sure I did it right. I could have probably cleaned the mating surfaces a bit better, but I wiped them down with acetone. It runs better, but still isn't 100%.

You were supposed to use new Orings in the upper intake and the new gasket that you bought.

The gasket you bought is good for the fuel rail to the lower intake. You need the MS90733 to seal the upper intake properly.

Also, if you have been running lean for a while due to a leak and then fix it but don't reset the computer you may have continued issues because the computer won't always pick up on the change right away.

Thanks. It sure didn't look right when she was all opened up, but there I was with something that looked like it MIGHT be a new version of the part and I was staring at worthless rubber.

Odd. At first I thought I asked the auto parts guy for the wrong thing, but I'm pretty sure I asked for plenum gaskets. Also, the box does say upper intake manifold gasket. Damned confusing.

I'll get the new parts today and throw em in.

Do you have the plastic or alu upper intake on that thing? I am thinking it was only the plastic ones that did the o-ring type ones between rail and upper intake. it has been almost 15 years since I touched one.

The one piece gasket was used below and above the fuel rail on the older aluminum intake 4.0s...the plastic upper intakes on the newer trucks get the orings, The old o orings normally come out in rock hard little bits as you pick them out with a oring pick or small screw driver.
