Pan Gasket Leaking Again

So I had the fluid in my transmission changed along with the filter and swapped to a pan with a drain plug. I used Wix products. Always had good luck with them. About a month later I noticed fluid was leaking from the pan gasket. I took it back in and they changed it under warranty although I had to pay for the new fluid. Well here we are are couple months later and it's leaking again! It's leaking from all around the pan and not in just one spot. I don't think I'm gonig to go with the Wix gasket this time. My mechanic seems to think it's the material it's made of. What do y'all recommend for a gasket and what material is best. The Wix gasket is a rubber material.
 
Rubber is usually good. It swells when the oil hits it and makes a even tighter seal. Is the warranty thing over? Have you considered getting under there and snugging the bolts up a little bit? Not too tight, but just a little on them and see if that stops it.

Also if you get it done again, they need to take the pan and put it on the edge of a straight work bench, and take a hammer and straighten the holes where the bolts go through the pan. The bolts will tend to bend the pan around the hole and that keeps it from putting pressure on the gasket. It should be standard procedure to eyeball the pan and see if this needs to be done while replacing the gasket. And the reason you do not want to tighten it too tight, and bend the pan around the bolt holes.

It's still under warranty but I'll have to buy the fluid again. After the first one started leaking we got under there and re-torqued all the bolts but it still leaked. When he took it off to replace it he put a straight edge on it and said it was very good. I will ask him about the bolt holes and tell him to do what you said. Wix seems to be the Go-To filter and gasket so that's what I ordered again. It shows a cork gasket on the website but actually comes with a rubber gasket. So I guess rubber is the material to use. We'll see what happens this time. :unsure:
 
I had my trans rebuilt a couple years ago now, and the pan bolts kept getting loose. It took a year and a half before I no longer needed to crawl under there and snug up the bolts every couple of months. Seems to be fine now, not sure what has changed...
 
Someone else told me that the aftermarket gaskets without the metal grommets in the bolt holes all leak. They said to just go with an OEM gasket and it won’t leak. Any truth to this?
 
I ordered the same Wix kit as I did before and this time it came with a cork gasket. I just decided to go with OEM and ordered one. I noticed that they are metal with a rubber bead around it. Hopefuly it does the trick!
 
the plastic framed or bonded metal are definitely reusable. when i use cork or non- grommeted rubber style i glue it to the pan and let it set up.
 
Was any gasket sealer used?

I think I used Copper Coat on my 2002 Ranger transmission oil pan and no leaks. Also easy to remove if necessary.

I use Permatex High Tack on gaskets that run wet like valve covers but more of a nuisance to remove and clean up afterwards.
 
having the same issue, have a new pan and a OEM ford gasket I am gonna try next. Mine is not bad just drops but it is annoying .
 
We finally got around to replacing the gasket today and found the issue. The holes in the rubber gasket are for the 8mm bolts but I have the 6mm bolts. So the gasket slid over in a few places just enough to let the fluid leak out. The new OEM gasket won't work either because I have the aftermarket pan with the drain plug and it has indents between the bolt holes (don't ask me why) so the gasket won't seal properly. We are going to try gluing the rubber gasket to the pan to hold it in place and see if that works. If not, I'm scrapping the aftermarket pan and going back to the OEM.
 
I am having the exact same issue, I used RTV stick it to the pan it almost worked I still have a small leak. It is a pain, but it works for now. I am ordering a cork/metal gasket to test next. I may end up making my own out of gasket material if the cork/metal one does not work. Going back to the original pan is not a option for me as someone before over torqued the pan so bad it is warped.
 
I don't know why thery put the indents between the bolt holes! Luckily I hung on to my original pan.
 
Well it didn't work! Still f*#king leaking! Not as bad but still leaking in about 3 places. I'm going to go with the cork gasket and a shit load of gasket sealer next time!
