Just take it off and paint it that way. Saves having to get over spray off the truck.

yeah im doing that just wanting to know so sand or not? what primers and paints to use. what clear coast to use.

For mine i used gloss black rustoleum, which has held well, no nicks, scratches, no imperfections whatsoever. And looks plenty glossy no need for clearcoat.

It's all in the prep. I used 450 grit sandpaper and sanded very evenly and thorough. then I blew it all away with compressed air, wiped it with a microfiber rag, then blew it again with the air to make sure all sanding paint powder was gone, then did short passes in thin even layers. I did 4 coats and it's great.

IMO it depends on what you have and your experience.

Do you have a compressor, spray gun, existing primer, existing clearcoat?
Do you have experience spraying with a spray gun?

If you answered no to all of the above, and don't know anyone who can do it for you, I suggest using spray can paint. It's going to be really expensive to go out and buy primer with hardener, basecoat with reducer, clearcoat with hardener to spray such a small area, plus you'll have alot left over.
Now, if you're interested in doing more spraying in the future, now might be a good time to invest in some tools and supplies to do it.

i did it to my truck and basically took some finer sand paper(450 is good^) and then use a adhesion promoter and then whatever paint. when i did mine i used a premixed catalyists(no clear coat step because its mixed in) and then used a paint gun. looks great

i just used a really fine sand paper sanded it all good and even then did like 4-5 thin coats with Rustoleum Semi-Flat looks perdy good to me

they make an "adhesion promoter" for painting plastic vehicle parts. it's a spray, not particularly cheap, but does work as i've used it once. will help paint stick to plastic parts for sure. but it still needs really good prep work. auto parts stores carry it.
good luck.

i painted mine monthes ago and i just lighty sanded the grill to get all the dirt and shit off then washed it let it dry and did a couple coats of plastic spray paint from valspar
