Painting problems...HELP

I am trying to refinish my bumper, I sanded the bumper down to the bare metal, then put anti rust primer on. I let one coat dry for about a half hour to fourth five minutes, then repeated that. Then I applied some engine enamel to the bumper which I was told it would work just as well...and have a wierd result. The paint does not stick to the primer but the primer sticks to the bumper. The paint is dry to the touch but peels right off with my fingernail. Please help, I am very frusturated!!!!!

I'm NOT skilled with paint, but; it sounds like the primer and the paint you used just don't like each other. Some kind of chemical non-reaction would be my guess. That's probably why everyone says to use everything from the same manufacturer.

Sounds like oil based primer with acetone based paint. I've had some terrible results from that.

Double check the ingredients on each paint.

Yeah, exactly what Mr. Frank the tank said, the primer and paint aren't compatible, so you are getting a reaction that is leading to your peeling. Also when you go to paint it again, after you find a paint that likes your primer of course, use some wax and tar remover just to assure the surface is clean for the best result. I always make sure to use it from spray painting a tube, to doing a full paint job.
