I want to paint the RANGER emblems on the side and tail gate of my truck. There the chrome with the black letters like on the new rangers right now. I want to paint them black. Is there any way i can paint them and get the paint to stick?

Use a fine sand paper and gently sand the surface until the texture is no longer smooth, make sure to tape the area on your fenders and tailgate around the emblem to avoid accidently hitting your paint with the sand paper and make sure to use a fine sandpaper like 750grit, oh and take pictures of the finised product cuz I was thinging the same thing

do you think the paint will stick or will it peel after awhile?
Shud i prime it at all?

You should wipe the surfaces down with Acetone or MEK first to promote adhesion in addition to using a adhesion promoter which can act as your primer before the paint is applied. Also add a clear coat to protect the paint. One more thing, sand lightly between coats to help it stick to the underlying layer.

Good Luck

Ford had problems getting the black paint to stick to make just the letters...

you should use something like prep spray from duplicolor... acetone is fine, but hey... it's all in what you want to use...

and yeah, between coats you should wet sand it with at least 2000 grit paper... don't worry if it takes it down a coat... you're trying to make it level and what-not... afterwards do at least 3 coats of clear with a wet sand of the last coat and then use buffing compound to smooth that out to have a factory finish shine.

alright thanks everybody ill give it a shot this weekend and post pics when i have it done!

i havent decided yet but i think im leaning more toward a gloss black. the flat black may look better though. what are you going with? would you please post pictures and tell me how it goes once you do it

semi-gloss would be fine if you aren't going to put a clear on it....

I flat blacked mine. I did them while they were off the fenders when i put a new fornt clip on. Sand it, prep cleaner'it, spray it, nuff said. Mines stuck for a year already, no lifting.
