Painted Deerhoofs?

Has anyone painted their stock "deer hoof" wheels? mine look crappy and I'm thinking of spraying them black

I think that painting factory aluminum wheels looks like shit, but that's me.

I figured it probably would but its easy to ask others opinions before I mess up a decent set of wheels. I may still try to paint the inserts on the holes and the center caps just to break it up.

may i suggest getting a junk rim from a pic and pull to experiment with. that way you don't mess up your rims till you know how you want them, I've sandblasted a set before with great success. then used self etching primer.and did them color matched to the body color with a chrome painted outer ring.

you can also shop your local auto parts place or body shop for some 'adhesion promoter' that is supposed to help paint stick really well.

Well, I did mine about 2 years ago, and I am still as pleased now as I was then. Just used some really high grit sandpaper, & some high temp enamel. Here it is.

Now once again take into consideration, this is a 2 year old paint job on a 17 year old rim (and some old tires).

wow, that does look really decent. think i might paint my aluminum wheels as they don't match the rest of my truck at all. do you remember what grit sandpaper you used?

Yeah, it was 400 grit. You should of seem it when it was new. I originally did it because of discoloration from brake dust. No problems now.

Is that a 2wd with the factory size tires? 'Cause that looks really good. I might do that to mine in the meanwhile.

not deerhoof rims, but cheap factory silver steelies i painted black on my 00
