I'm putting on a set of pacesetter headers tomorrow, already have 6 bolts drilled down 5/16th's so im good so far for that haha, my question is when i remove the manifolds, and i can only assume im gonna have to tap those bolts:bawling:, Is there a pipe that is made for the shorty headers so that way it can meet with the cats, I'm assuming going from those stock manifolds to a set of shorty headers there's gonna be a different way to bolt to the collector, also is there anything else i need to take into consideration before venturing off to this project alone? haha I'm definitely not the most mechanically gifted so any help will do, trynna learn as I go cause I've noticed there's no substitute for experience. :icon_idea:

Anyways, Thanks guys.

Your talking about the Y-pipe? Mine came with everything, Headers and y pipe to connect to the cat. Umm...yeah the bottom bolts need grinding down. Or washers in my case. Umm..i would definitely recommend you tap the threads first! Penetrating Oil is your friend. And on my 96 the egr tube didn't line up so it needed bending...umm. All I can think of now. Any questions just post up. I been there done that. Did you get the old bolts out yet?

No, I haven't gotten the old bolt's out yet, I assume it's gonna be a pain in the butt :(. However, I didn't receive a Y-Pipe with my order, So I was wondering if there was something on the ranger that would meet up with the headers since they're shorty's already. However, If you received one maybe it's time to give an angry call haha, anyways, I definitely will, I appreciate it man. :D

Oh, How much of a bend are you talking about on the egr?

most likely not..your gonna need a new y-pipe, preferably one from pacesetter that meets to your stock cat (kinda like hedman's piece) or you'll have to get one fabricated.

The downpipe (y-pipe) comes with the headers...if you didnt receive them then you need to return them, unless of course you bought them from another user, used, etc.

You cannot use your factory y-pipe, but it is possible to fabricate a y-pipe and can be difficult. When I received my BBK headers they came with the 90-94 cat flange, even though I bought them for my '95 since they were listed as 95-00. I went to the junkyard and pulled a y-pipe (didnt want to cut my old one in case I couldnt get it to work I could go back to the factory setup) and cut the pipes out of the flange and had to pie cut the new pipes to fit inside the newer style flange and welded it all up. Came out great.

Also, be aware that your afternoon project could turn into a whole weekend or worse....the manifold-to-head studs tend to break off easily. I got lucky and only 2 broke. Still ruined my weekend, but I got them out without any problems once I had some extractors. The EGR tube nuts is a whole 'nother story. Good Luck....

First off, I agree with everyone else. Your headers should come with everything from headers to y pipe to cat connecting pipe (probably not the tecnical term). And I couldn't agree with yellow splash more. I thought I could finish it in a day (hahaha...) turned into like two months (things broke, I got busy...) I personally did not break any old bolts but I broke a new one! So make SURE you clean the threads first. Also...do not break off a tap in your cylinder head...that is the worst. As far as EGR goes...theres a adapter thing that screws into the header, and then a bolt over top the tube that cinches it up to the adapter. Take the bolt off first so the tube is disconnected from the manifold. Then once your manifold is out, take out the adapter. It is way easier that way. Then do backwards for putting it back in. And I;m not sure how much of a bend. All I know Is me and my dad started the bolts. Then he banged it and I tightened as he hit it. Probably...a half inch, maybe more. It worked out good in the end and I don't think its leaking too much.
P.S. Yellow Splash. Your truck is one of my fav's on here. Just saying haha
P.P.S. To get the old ones off I think I tapped on a 3/8 socket for a tighter fit
P.P.P.S. Here is (one of the couple) threads detailing my header project...looking back I was very angry at that point in time of my life haha http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65509&page=2
