So I realigned my cmp sensor after installing it to what I felt was incorrect.. No CEL though however I installed it the way I saw in a picture I had of the engine, and it is not the way the manual says. Anyways I tried the way the manual says, set it 0 degrees tdc of the #1 cylinder compression stroke. And then I installed it so it was 60 degrees off the centerline of the engine (counterclockwise if you were looking at the front of the engine). I'd say the sensor itself was inline with the syncros hold down bolt. I used the aligning tool and everything. Code did not set off for a few days, all the tests had been completed (besides the evap of course). Then I decided to set the misfire monitor by accelling to 65 and slowing to 40, 3 consecutive times without brakes. After this the code went off.. "P1309 misfire monitor disabled because no cmp sensor signal". So I reset the computer and again ran the test and it came back again.
What's weird I think is that it hadn't gone off for the few days after installation, but right when I set the misfire monitor it goes off, both times.
Another weird thing is that the whole time I had it weirdly aligned (I'd say it was 45 or so maybe more degrees clockwise of the centerline of the engine) no codes set. When I first replaced the sensor per shop description 9+ months ago the code immediately set within 20 minutes of driving and instead of p1309 it set p0340. However I didn't know about how to set the misfire monitor and all.
My question is first of all what the hell? And secondly, is this dorman piece of crap sensor and synchro screwing me over, or am I just not installing it correctly?
Can somebody describe to me with real pictures (not diagrams) about how to install this, I've read a ton of threads and manuals and I feel I'm installing it the way they say every time, but maybe not.
Should I just install it the way I had it before and call it good? Doesn't make me feel all warm and toasty though..
