Hi folks. Been digging around here and a couple of other forums and haven't quite been able to find the answers I was looking for.

2001 Ford Ranger Edge 4x2 4.0 Automatic Transmission

It's actually my wife's truck and I have been driving it for the last week to try to experience the issue.

O/D Off light flashes and hard shift

Got adapter and downloaded FORScan

Pulled Codes and only for P0733 - Transmission Gear #3 Incorrect Ratio

Occasionally when stopping at a low speed, there seems to be no power braking but not sure if this is related. Its been doing it since before the O/D Off light.

No engine braking in 1st gear

I'm considering changing the solenoids and filter to see if it goes away

Almost seems like a good candidate for TSB 03-22-10

With 203000 miles, how expensive of a job do you think I may be looking at?

If I've never opened a transmission before is this to big of an undertaking for a first timer?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all. I logged my drive to work today. Does any of this seem out of spec?

I believe this is the 1-3 shift.

And this would be my drive home

I am not a trans tech, hopefully Brad will chime in on this one.

Unless you are loosing a gear completely or have no engine braking in manual 1st, rather than 1st gear in D, I don't think 3-22-10 applies. The job is not hard, but must be done very carefully.

It does look like it's slipping, or not completing the shift into 3rd correctly though. I think I would start by checking the band adjusting nuts on the driver's side of the transmission. I have seen on this trans before, once or twice, where one worked loose and was giving poor shifting.

Your TCC slip PIDS would be more useful if you had throttle position and engine RPM data on the graph as well.

Just to confirm though, that is normal for it to go from 1st to 3rd? This is due to 2nd gear being 1st + O/D?

I do not have manual 1st gear braking.

I'll do some searching on here for adjusting the band.

But according to the TSB, lack of manual
1st gear braking and a code P0733 would coincide with the TSB. The more I read about it, the more I feel like it's something I could manage.

It should go 1-2-3, but could skip 2nd under the correct conditions.

If you have no engine braking in manual 1st then yes, start with the TSB. I read your original post as no engine braking in regular first.
