Hey guys, I recently fixed the P0409 code I was getting on my 95 2.3l XL, one of the wires that goes to the vacuum regulator was broken, I replaced the connector with a new one and the code didn't show anymore, but after a few miles drive I got codes P0401 and P0402, any idea what could be wrong?, Google says is something wrong on the EGR system, but the explanation of both codes seems to be contradictory, one says insufficient recirculation flow, and the other says it is excessive :icon_confused:

What should I do to spot the issue?

Thanks :icon_thumby:

Likey have a DPFE that is toasted. It senses the flow based on pressure differential across a known orifice(inside the EGR tube). Two small hoses connect the DPFE to the EGR tube, one in each side of the orifice. EGR flow develops a pressure, and the DPFE is going nutz trying to figure it out. Either the DPFE or the tubes... or the orifice is plugged. Most likely is the DPFE.

Thanks for the answer. Another question, is the DPFE thing the one located behind the coil packs and vacuum regulator, next to the firewall?, the ones i have seen on the internet are plastic and black, I believe mine is metallic, if so, are the plastic ones the same as the metallic one I have?.

Cheers.

I did not see a DPFE in the image, but remember, it has two lines coming into it that connect to the EGR line, along with wires for power, ground and signal. If you can find the lines connected to the EGR tube, you can follow them to the DPFE. Beyond that, I plead ignorance. My wife's car has a DPFE, as does the Mariner, but I don't know Ranger setup beyond the 'general' stuff.
