so here lately I have noticed my oil pressure gauge twitching but still staying in the normal range. As I look up this code it seems as though they are related with the oil pressure gauge. Looks like I may be due for a cam synchro thingy. Anyone have more info than what I found on the site? Looks pretty easy for the most part. I just don't know if there's anything I can check. I see it says something about having play but I don't know if I have to remove it to find out or if there are simpler test to do. I cleared the CEL just to see if it comes back. truck is a 1999 ranger, 3.0 flex fuel, auto, 118,000 miles. Thanks.

No good way to check for shaft play without taking it out.

Throw a mechanical gauge on it. Your sender might be getting screwy.

in my 2000 3.0 the oil gauge has been flakey for at least 10 years. reads low at startup, after 2 miles it jumps around a bit, after 4 miles it reads normal for the rest of the drive. I've had a new sender for 3+ years, maybe I'll install it next year.

the sync unit comes out real easy. an oil passage can get clogged. that binds the shaft, which puts more load on the drive gear wearing it out. then the oil pump stops working. I cleaned mine about 5 years ago. they can be disassembled for cleaning and inspecting the shaft.

Good to know. I will replace it, just don't know when. haven't had much time to do anything but work and keep the fire going at home.
