Oxygen Sensor Voltage Readout Questions....

replaced both of my upstream oxygen sensors today and decided to bench test the old ones. I took the propane torch to them and hooked up the trusty fluke. One read fine, getting up to 0.600 volts near the 20 second mark and returns back to 0.000 volts gradually. The other did the same in the beginning as well but when I removed the torch it dropped down to 0.000 volts quickly and then it read ~(-0.150) volts and slowly returned to 0.000 volts. Has that sensor gone on the fritz or am I just sounding like a noobie? :icon_confused:

Also, the truck ran much smoother tonight than it ever has.

Well, I'm not familiar with that method of testing, but I suppose it could be valid. The sensor is a piezo crystal that produces voltage in the absence of oxygen.

I am however familiar with the practice of blasting the sensors with the torch to burn off all the crap that builds up on them while they sit in the exhaust stream. That probably explains why it ran better tonight.

O2s can get lazy... the respond just not quick enough to keep up.. sounds like the second one may be lazy...
