Does the tube hoop style under bed spare carrier fit a 31x10.50-15? And if so does it protrude above the frame rails much?

I found mine and am thinking about reinstalling it... but I have the exhaust routed above the frame.

With the hoop style, I can't say. It just fits with the cable style between the rods the prevent the tire form shifting into things it shouldn't be touching, the frame rails, and the rear cross member of the frame and the tow hitch. I hope this helps some.

I have the thing soaking hoping to get some part of it to move so I can find out.

Every bolt on the thing is seized and it doesn't pivot... so we shall see if I can get it to even work and then experiment.

I did hold it up to a 235/85-16 here at work... I am not overly optimistic.

I thought I read once where you could fit a bigger spare than a 235/75/15 in the underneath carrier by making a link 1 or 2 inches longer on the one side where the hoop bolts to a bracket (I think its the left side, If I remember correct the right side bolts right to the frame with 2 bolts, left side had a bracket mounted to the frame and it fastened to the hoop with 1 bolt) I cant reference mine as it was one of the first things I took off. I mounted my spare upright against inside bedrail behind driver.

After a fight I got the eye bolt out:

31 is a no-go.

The center hub part is nowhere near the rim, the eyebolt won't reach anything.

Shown with a smaller tire:

If I made a different hoop that didn't tuck in so much...

Can you use the later spare hanging system? I think I have a 255/75-16 in mine.

I've thought about this because I have the same issue.

The problem is the frame member that winch mounts to on the later trucks doesn't exist on the 1st gen, and there isn't anything even close to it.

From the K-members at the rear cab mounts back to the rear crossmember there is nothing.

Post 173 shows how it fits in the truck and what is around it beautifully:

I thought about making a different hoop but I don't know if it curves in to hug the friggin tiny OEM tires or for spring clearance. The stamped piece just clamps on. Two straps coming down welded to the pipe for that to clamp on I think would work.

I just got kinda greedy now that I have two fullsize spares. I could carry one under the truck and one on my spare tire carrier on the back of the truck...
